City Career Fair – “It’s Now a Candidate’s Market!”

Our most recent Annual Diversity Employment Day Career Fairs and Roundtables reflected a shift in employment hiring dynamics – not seen for years.  This was obvious at our recent DED Career Fairs for the cities of Oakland, Chicago, Milwaukee and Los Angeles.  Employers were scrambling with laser precision to engage with qualified candidates from before the start of each DED Career Fair till well past the conclusion. It was very refreshing and gratifying to see numerous candidates giddy with optimism for their employment opportunities. This shift to a sense of urgency to hire top talent stems from the unemployment rate sinking well below 5%.  5 per cent is considered by economists to signal Full Employment. But here’s the catch, you won’t hear or read about. 5 per cent unemployment refers also to the lowest sustainable rate of employment to which unemployment can fall before shortages of labor leads to excessive wage increases.  And that scares employers!  So update your resume and jump on the Good Times Hiring Train. Among the employers hiring at our recent DED Career Fairs mention above were Harley Davidson Motor Co., Social Security Administration, Union Pacific, UCLA, Amgen, Dignity Health, Easterseals, Bed Bath & Beyond, General Electric, FBI, Exact Sciences, US Bank, Marriott and many more.  Also remember, employers are under the gun to do seasonal hiring too. So, enjoy! For the moment, it is finally a Candidate’s Market!
