| Profile: |
The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center's long and distinguished history began in 1773 when it was founded as an almshouse for the poor.
In 1984, ownership was transferred to The Johns Hopkins Hospital and University. The Medical Center is home to the Johns Hopkins Asthma & Allergy Center and many Johns Hopkins continuing care programs.
We are an academic medical center with an acute hospital and a full array of post-acute services staffed by physicians who are full-time faculty of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Situated on a 130-acre, park-like campus with open, landscaped spaces, jogging trails, an outdoor labyrinth and a community park, the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is one of five member institutions in the Johns Hopkins Health System.
The Medical Center offers a range of services for the community, including a level 2 adult trauma center, state designated burn center -- the Baltimore Regional Burn Center (verified by the American Burn Association) -- and a level III+ neonatal intensive care service that participates in the high-risk perinatal referral system. Comprehensive addictions treatment and community psychiatry services and a suite of outpatient services complement our inpatient care and nationally renowned geriatrics services.
Our campus is also home to the National Institute on Aging's Gerontology Research Center and National Institute on Drug Abuse Addiction Research Center.
Located in southeast Baltimore, Bayview is easily accessible from I-95 and I-895 and is close to many area attractions, including Baltimore's Inner Harbor, historic Canton and Fells Point, the National Aquarium and a variety of restaurants and museums.
